A personal self- assessment involves reflecting on thoughts, habits, and behaviors which are internalized or habitual, that is, actions that are taken without “thinking’ about it. The process of getting to know ‘who you are’ can be a challenging undertaking. So often people are consumed with the cares of the world, other people, and things other than self. Rarely is take quality time given to reflect on the self. Knowing one’s self is key to motivation, problem solving, decision making, job and career selection and personal achievement. Also, a self-assessment helps to gain insight, eliminate negative thinking and the baggage that comes along with it. A plan for personal growth provides a basis for ongoing development. This course will provide a framework for conducting a personalized self-assessment and growth plan.

Health and Nutrition

Pathways to A Healthy lifestyle – 3 Hours

A recent report by health and nutrition experts identified six areas of concern. The priorities include beliefs about food, maintaining health, medical management, eating patterns and behavior, and the source of food supply. Studies also show there are common behaviors among people who have major diseases. Common patterns include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, inactivity, poor diet, and unhealthy thoughts. The good news is, there are benefits to living a healthy lifestyle. The class includes education and awareness regarding the benefits of being healthy and nutrition consciousness.

In this class you will learn:

  • Importance of a healthy lifestyle in times of uncertainty
  • Food factors that impact health and nutrition • Nutrition for improving and sustaining health

Self-development, whether personal or professional requires a commitment to invest in “you.” The decision for self-improvement is personal and sometimes requires a change in thoughts, habits, and beliefs. The goal of personal and professional development is self-knowledge that leads to empowerment. This holistic approach to for self-development seeks to enhance transformative learning and behavior. The Life Skills series covers five critical topics, Self Esteem and Motivation; Time Management; Money Management; Values and Ethics; and Professionalism.

Self-Esteem & Motivation – 3 Hours

Self-Esteem, and Motivation is an engaging session that introduces a framework for understanding self-esteem and indicators of low and pseudo self-esteem. The session introduces concepts and underlying causes that impact motivation.

Time Management – 3 Hours

This session will cover a variety of topics that are essential to time management. Topics include: what is time management, principles, and approaches to managing time, the benefits of managing time, pitfalls and tips for effective time management.

Values and Ethics – 3 Hours

This educational session provides insight into ethics from leadership and workplace perspectives. Topics include defining ethics, ethical principles and challenges, how to make ethical decisions and key ethical traits.

Professionalism in the Work Place – 3 hours

Professionalism is a critical issue in the workplace. This session provides an overview of the qualities and characteristics of professionalism including personal demeanor, etiquette, communications and professional behavior.

Money Management – 3 Hours

Money Management is an interactive session that covers concepts such as SMART goals, needs versus Wants, Spending Leaks, Cutting Expenses and Increasing Income, and creating a Money Management Action Plan (MMAP).

JOB READINESS

Job readiness is a preparation process. Job search strategies help to get the job, and job retention skills help to keep the job. The search may be for the first job, a new job or a promotion opportunity. Today, job readiness also involves insights into personal interests and preferences, achievable work-related goals, and ongoing professional and personal development.

Job readiness is even more important in today’s work environment as employers identify employment weaknesses in attendance, timeliness and work ethic.
